A Message to our loyal and wonderfully supportive community!

Due to concerns for our population with deficient immune systems, we are adhering to the CDC’s suggested guidance to avoid congregating.

For this reason, we have made some changes to our event this year. We are sorry to say that we will be unable to include the pancake breakfast, photo booth, and in-person registration. This year’s event will be a Walk only–either in person or virtually. Anyone can register and participate from any location! And new this year for all in-person participants are free reusable CRC Tote bags instead of T-Shirts!

Please be sure to register online, whether walking with us at Cass Park or walking virtually at your own location.

We believe this year’s hybrid event will inspire the same camaraderie and spirit of joy and hope that has been part of this event for the last 27 years.

All you ever wanted to know about the event, but were afraid to ask!

What is a Walk Team?

A Walkathon team is a group of walkers who collect donations both individually and together in support of their pledges to the walk. A walk team can consist of co-workers, members of a club or organization, families, friends, or anyone else! You can join an existing team, or create one of your own!

Starting a Team – Be a Team Captain

You can start your team by registering online at https://givebutter.com/Walkathon2021.  If you choose to create a team, you will become the designated Team Captain in charge of picking a team name, recruiting members, and encouraging your team members to collect donations.

How will we find each other?

Look for the SELFIE BANNER. Please remember to socially distance from other pods and teams!

How do we show our Team spirit?

Lots of teams dress up, print unique shirts or hats, and carry signs or banners. Sometimes it’s in honor or memory of an individual, sometimes it’s to promote their company, and sometimes it’s just for fun (creativity always encouraged!). If you are walking in honor of someone specific you can download and PRINT A HEART to wear on race day in honor and remembrance of that individual. (download here)

How to Recruit Team Members

Let it be known that you and/or your organization are forming a team for CRC’s Walkathon. Invite individuals to participate by distributing information about the walk and how to register. Here are some quick tips on how to get the word out:

  1. Anyone can join your team virtually! Start with those closest to you: call and email your family, friends, and neighbors to let everyone know you are forming a team and are looking for team members. Emphasize that it’s a great way to have fun while supporting a great cause.
  2. Download or create a Walkathon recruitment flyer (download here) and send it around your neighborhood. Put up posters at places you frequent such as your school or place of worship. Ask if you can put in an announcement in the newspaper or bulletin.
  3. Write an article for a local or school newspaper about the Walkathon and your walk team.
  4. Set up a fundraising event to get the word out about your team while collecting donations.
  1. Put a notice on the bulletin board at work and/or put a brief article in the company newsletter. Include the team captain’s name, email and phone number as the contact for more information.
  2. Have a sign-up table in the cafeteria or lunchroom at work.
  3. Encourage your team members to spread the word and recruit other individuals.

History

The Cancer Resource Center began as the Ithaca Breast Cancer Alliance in 1994. Over the past 27 years, our mission and services have expanded in order to serve women and men affected by all types of cancer.

The annual Walkathon is our most important fundraising event and has grown into the largest event of its kind in Tompkins County. It raises nearly one-third of CRC’s annual budget and funds our core service so that….“no one faces cancer alone“.

Where does the money go?

When you give to the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, you help create and sustain a community of support for people living with and affected by cancer.  100% of your gift remains in our community and allows CRC to provide all of our services free of charge SO THAT…..

“no one faces cancer alone”.
