#GentleYoga meets every Tuesday from 10:00-11am via Zoom.
The class is offered free of charge to those with cancer.

The Gentle Yoga class is a great way to experience a sense of peace in the body & mind, and to learn how to have that experience of peace more often in life. For about 10 years, the gentle yoga class has been open to all CRC clients & their caregivers. The movements & stretches are appropriate for all levels of physical ability, and are a perfect introduction for people who have never done yoga before. Modifications & safe movement practices are taught so the movements can be safely done by anyone.

But more important than the sense of physical relaxation & energy that comes from the movements is the experience of deep relaxation, a guided meditation experience in which the pains & discomforts for many individuals release & evaporate. The relaxation & meditation offers the chance to quiet the mind and let go of the thoughts, plans, & concerns that fill our days. What happens when the mind quiets down some? There is a sense of peace, wellness, and for many people, a feeling of courage to meet one’s challenges with kindness & compassion. To learn how to access this peaceful state within oneself, and bring it into our lives, is one of the main goals of the class.

Here’s a quote from a participant of the class: “I have been attending Nick’s gentle yoga class through CRC for many years. Of all the yoga/exercise classes I have tried, Nick has been the most sensitive to the needs of people who are dealing with cancer. His classes not only give us a gentle routine for physical self care, but also mindful meditative tools to calm the busy mind and nervous system, which tends to work on overdrive in many of us dealing with cancer. I cannot put into words what I receive from the hour of zoom every week connecting with Nick and “my” people.”

If you’ve been curious about this class, the new year might be the right time to experiment with something new and see for yourself what the physical & mental health benefits of yoga are for you!   Newcomers always welcome (this is a drop-in class, attend when you can!) If you have any questions, contact Nick at 607-279-4769 or nickboyar1@yahoo.com (nickboyar.com).
