CRC Announces New Executive Director

The Board of Directors and Staff of the Cancer Resource Center are pleased and excited to announce the appointment of Marilee Murphy as the new Executive Director.   Marilee is a long standing resident of Ithaca and brings a strong background in health care and organizational  leadership.  She holds bachelor’s degrees in nutrition from Cornell  University, and in nursing from Binghamton University. Marilee has  worked in various capacities as a health care practitioner over the past 30 years, including time as a staff nurse at Cayuga Medical Center in the mid 1990’s.

Marilee is considered to be a national leader in the field of acupuncture, serving on the board and as board chair of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.  She also served as Founding Dean and Program Director for new master’s degree programs at the Finger Lakes School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, NY.  In recent years, Marilee has maintained an integrative health care practice in Ithaca and in that capacity, has worked with a significant number of cancer patients. She has felt this to be some of the most fulfilling work of her career.

Marilee intends to transition out of her practice and into her new role at the Cancer Resource Center.  CRC believes that the passion, caring, and dedication that Marilee has brought to her other positions will be an asset to our strategy to create fundraising and development activities which will ensure ongoing financial sustainability. Her strong educational and leadership skills will allow CRC to continue to carry out its core mission of creating and sustaining a community of support for people living with and affected by cancer.  Marilee truly understands that no one should face cancer alone.

Marilee’s official start date at CRC is June 20, however, during the month of May, she will be orienting herself to the staff, clients, and volunteers, and learning about the day-to-day operations at CRC.

We are extremely grateful to the Search Committee for their tireless work.  We hope that you will join us in welcoming Marilee Murphy to the Cancer Resource Center team.
